VIDUSHI SMT. MANJU MEHTA
Born on 21st May 1945, Vidushi Smt. Manju mehta belongs to a very well-known family of Jaipur and had her initial training in sitar from her elder brother Pt.Shashimohan Bhatt. She won the Central and State Government scholarships and received training from Domodarlal Kabra. She won the prize in AIR Talent Search Competition and did her master of Music in which she cleared first.
She has an experience of teaching music for the past thirty five years and she is also one of the founder trustee of the renowned organisation “Saptak” which is dedicated to the promotion of Indian Classical music and where she is teaching Sitar since its inception.
Mrs. Mehta has been a regular television and radio artist graded ‘top grade’. She has participated in major music concerts in India and abroad. She has been felicitated by a number of Government and non Government organisations. She has received the prestigious Guarav Puraskar by the Sangeet Natak Academy of Gujarat, and has to her credit Tuesday night concert of ‘Akashwani’, Saturday National Programme of Music of ‘Akashwani’, and Diwali Akashwani Sangeet Sammelan. She was honoured by the Medical Association of Ahmedabad. She was honoured by “Triveni” Baroda on the World Theatre day. She has received the special “Pt.Omkarnath” Award by Gujarat Government. She was honoured by The Bhaskar Group(Divya Bhaskar) “The 100 Power List”. She has received the ‘Sangeet Kala Ratna’ and ‘Sangeet Martand’ Samman by the Akhil Bhartiya Dhruvpad-Naad-Ninaad Virast Samaroh-Jaipur. She has received the ‘Sangeet Kala Gaurav’ by the Sangeet Kala Kendra, Agra. She has received the prestigious Marwar Sangeet Ratna Award by Maharaja Gajsingh, Jodhpur.
Bharat Ratna Pt. Ravishankar chose a piece of her Sitar recital recording which was released on his 80th Birthday.
In 1999 she toured USA & in 2011 she toured Australia where she performed in different states and her sitar recital was highly appreciated. In early 70’s she toured Europe with Smt. Mirnalini Sarabhai as a Sitar artist.
